The inauguration of the Greyhound Terminal in 1935 conferred upon this new chapter its architectural emblem, a streamlined edifice that embodied the very ethos of modern progress.Berenice Abbott, unrivalled chronicler of urban metamorphosis, selected the restrained vantage point of the Pennsylvania Building on West 34th Street to inscribe the terminal into her photographic oeuvre. The photograph was taken in the context of Abbott%u2019s monumental project %u201cChanging New York%u201d, in which, under commission from the Federal Art Project, she documented the city%u2019s transformation at the intersection of tradition and modernity.
